THE DYERSBURG ARMY AIR BASE MEMORIAL ASSOCIATION, INC.

 Members and Project Development

Members of our Association are varied -- some worked on the Dyersburg Army Air Base during WWII, others were in other branches of the services, some are still in the military, and then there are those of us who never served but feel that what we do has great historical significance.

In order to complete our original mission, building and developing a Museum to commemorate this history of DAAB and to honor those who have served or worked in our behalf was necessary.

A 4,000 sq. ft. Veterans' Museum opened in August 1997 and a 4,900 sq. ft. addition was added in 2004.   We thank those who have given their time,  money, equipment, expertise, and artifacts to make it a very good museum.

The operations of this facility is totally funded by contributions.  Approximately 30% of the construction expense has been funded by local, state, and federal grants.

Currently the Association has on loan from the Pensacola Naval Museum an A-7 Corsair Jet as well as a Jet Engine from an A-7.

The organization is governed by a Board of Directors.  The Board members are area citizens who are deeply involved with the governance and work with us on projects and every day duties.

In addition, a Board of Visitors, which gives the organization a nationwide emphasis, assists by helping us with new contacts, raise money, and provides excellent advice. The Board of Visitors meets once a year, but members of that Board are available whenever we have a need.

The Gala Committee and Vox Prop Auxiliary and reserve are those who organize and implement fundraising activities.  The Gala Committee has been organized since 2004, and some of the members change with each event.  This committee organizes and implements the major fundraiser.  The Vox Prop is a new organization which involves planning for activities that will appeal to a different age group.  Membership in this group is determined by recommendation and an interest in supporting a museum in our rural area.  Lisa Godsey is the Chairman.
